Week 18.... cold, snow and ice... oh my!!!
Well, this past Saturday was a real hoot! The snow from the previous weekend was not even close to being melted, and there was still lots of ice on the roads. But our team practice was still on. So, being the dedicated runner I am, I showed up bright and early Saturday morning. Coach informed me that the only road that was plowed well enough for me to run on was Grandview Drive. I was supposed to run 100 minutes, so I figured I could just run back and forth on Grandview until I got to 100 minutes. Boring, yes, a little. But way better than spending 100 minutes on a treadmill or on an indoor track. :) Trust me!
It was REEEEEALLY cold too, I might add. I believe the temperature was 18 degrees when I started. Let's not even discuss the windchill. Brrrrrr! So, not wanting to stand around and freeze to death, I started running asap. Coach went ahead of me in his car and stopped at various places to pour Gatorade for me as needed. I would have preferred that he pour me a soy pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks, but oh well. :-P I had to run a little faster than usual because it was so cold and I just wanted to be warm - so I actually managed to run about 8.5 miles in 100 minutes. Not bad at all. And after my run, I did get my pumpkin spice latte, along with a pumpkin cream cheese muffin. I think I earned it. :)
My loyal readers, you will definitely want to stay tuned this weekend, as I tackle my 20 mile run. The weather is supposed to be perfect (50 degrees!). I've been carbo-loading all week. No, I don't really need to carbo-load for a week, but any excuse to eat lots of pasta is a good excuse. ;-) I'm a bit nervous about the distance, but my coach will be there to keep me motivated. Y'all wish me luck and send me good endurance vibes, okay? :)
